Granny Stitch Crochet Shawl Pattern

Inspiration

Do you love crochet granny stitch patterns? I love them and believe that the granny stitch will never grow old or disappear. You can make basically any project and use any yarn with a granny stitch and it will still look good.

I like the way the shawl turned out. It is light perfect for spring, summer, and even fall. The best addition you can add to your wardrobe for those breezy evenings and chilly mornings. The pattern itself is easy to make too, using single and double crochet stitches plus chains.

Yarn

I used Lion Brands Mandala 100% Acrylic in Liger. I love this yarn because it is light, easy to work with, and it has the perfect look of what I was looking for in a shawl. The yarn is soft and has the right texture.

Other comparable yarns to Lion Brand Mandala are Lion Brand Ice Cream, Bernat Baby Sport, Mary Maxim Artist Palette, Bernat Baby Sport Sparkle, and Hobbii Amigo.

If you use the substitute, make a gauge swatch first to make sure you get the intended measurements.

Special technique

Magic ring: Holding yarn a few inches from the end, wrap around 2 fingers. Do not remove the wrap from the finger, insert the hook into the center of the wrap and draw up a loop of working yarn. Chain one stitch to secure loop and remove from fingers. Workaround once in the pattern instructions and then pull the hanging yarn to tighten the ring.

Notes

The pattern is written in US Standard Terms.

Ch 3 at the beginning of the rows counts as a st.

Shell sts and ch 1 between the shell and main pattern will not be counted in the st count since they are the same throughout the pattern starting from row 3.

You can make the shawl as long and as wide as you want by adding more or less rows to the size as you want.
