Crochet Cancer Challenge 2022 Breast Cancer

Inspiration for Crochet Hat Beanie pattern

I am very happy to be part of the Crochet Cancer Challenge of 2022.

According to statistics, Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women, besides skin cancer. No wonder this year alone I have had several friends and family diagnosed with breast cancer. Most of them are young but fortunately, most of them were diagnosed early, thanks to early detection. Despite the early detection though, most of them had to go through chemotherapy which resulted to hair loss.

For this year’s Crochet Cancer Challenge Blog Hop hosted by Christina, I dedicate this crochet hat to those diagnosed with breast cancer. I admire the bravery of this women and their positive outlook on life even when they are fatigued and can’t hold any food down after chemotherapy. They have given me courage and a new outlook on life.

Last year I participated in Crochet Cancer Challenge and dedicated the hat to brain cancer. Below is a photo of last year’s hat. See the link for the story behind the hat.

Hope Slouchy Hat

Before I designed this hat, I had just finished making a cowl, The Liddy Crochet Cowl (See below). I loved the textured and how soft it turned out that decided that I would make this hat to go together with the cowl. They both turned out better than I envisioned and I get many compliments when I wear them together.

Liddy Crochet Cowl

Thanks to Christina for giving me a chance to be able to share this hat in the Cancer Challenge Blog Hop. Although this hat is made for breast cancer, you can customize it by using a different color of yarn for the specific type of cancer. Below are also the types of yarn you can use if you can’t find the yarn I used.

Yarn

Big Twist ValueYarn 100% Acrylic, a worsted weight yarn. The soft and becomes even softer after washing. The crochet textured pattern makes this hat thick and warm, adding comfort for cancer patients during chemo treatment or just cover their head for warmth especially if they lost their hair.

You can use any soft worsted yarn or other comparable yarns including Premier Yarns Just Tweed, Herrschners Worsted 8, Bernat Super Value, Loops & Threads Impeccable, and Big Twist Yarns Heather.
