Mary's Market Bag
Spring and summer are my favorite seasons. The warmth, the blooming flowers, the smell of the flowers, and the get-togethers with family and friends makes it a very special time. And did I mention the shopping and going to the beach? Well, I had all those things in my mind when I designed this bag. It is a multipurpose bag. It can be used for shopping, going to the beach, and even carrying your knick-knacks during picnics or just a get-together for barbeque. The way things are going now we might finally have the opportunity to gather together again.

I chose to use the bright colors since I wanted something to cheer me up as I did my shopping or went to the beach. I used Lily Cream n' Sugar 100% Cotton yarn to make the bag. I love this yarn because they have a variety of colors to choose from and the yarn itself is strong. I used Ombre and solid color but you can opt to use both solid colors and it should still come out looking very nice.

Color A- Ombre (Strawberry) - (150 yds (138 m), 3 oz (85 g) -180 yds (165 m)
Color B- Solid (Ecru) 190yds (174 m), 4 oz (113 g)-215 yds (197 m)

Special Technique
Adjustable loop ring: Holding yarn a few inches from the end, wrap around 2 fingers. Do not remove the wrap from the finger, insert the hook into the center of the wrap and draw up a loop of working yarn. Chain one stitch to secure loop and remove from fingers. Workaround one in the pattern instructions and then pull the hanging yarn to tighten the ring

Ch 2 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch
Colors are changed every 2 rows while repeating rounds 9 and 10

Centerpiece (Make 2 Identical)
Using Color A -Make an adjustable loop ring.
Round 1: Using 5 mm hook, ch 3, dc 16 sts around the ring, join (17 sts)
Round 2: ch 5, (counts as a dc and ch 2), dc in the first sp (btw first ch 3 and first dc of previous round), *sk 2 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next sp*, rep from *to last 2 sts, sk 2, join (8 V sts)
Round 3: (Do not ch) *(3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch sp (makes small shell), sl st btwn V-st just worked in and next V-st, rep from* to end, join, (8 small shells).
Round 4: sl st in next 3 sts, sl st in ch-sp, *ch 7, sk 7, sl st in next ch-sp*, rep from * to first sl st. sl st in first sl st of same round (8 ch sp)
Round 5: Ch 1, sc in the sl st, *(ch 3, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch) x 3, ch 3, sk 1 ch, sc in next sl st*, rep from * to last ch 7, (ch 3, sk 1, sc in next ch) x 3, ch 2, dc in next sl st to join
Round 6-9: ch 1, sc into that (ch 2 + dc) in sp of the previous round, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, rep from * to end, join with ch 2 + dc into the dc, (as in round 5)

Joining Band
Using Color B and hook size 4 mm Ch 12
Row 1: sc in 2nd and each st to end turn
Rows 2-110: ch 1, sc each in 1st and 2nd sts, *(sc, dc) in next st, sk next st, rep from * to last st, sc in last st, turn. Do not fasten off.
The bag opening is customizable. The longer the band, the smaller the opening, the shorter the band the wider the opening. I left out 10 of the ch-10 loops for the opening measuring (I will put the measurements of the opening)
Assembling the Bag
(Using Color B)
After the desired length, sew the two pieces on the band with one piece on one side and the other piece on the opposite side of the band.
