Doublel-Layered Ribbed Crochet Ear Warmer

Inspiration Rewrite

Looking for a winter ear warmer that is soft, warm, and cozy? If yes, then try this headband. I have had other headbands, but this has been the best so far. It is so soft and warm.

I decided to make this ear warmer double-layered for more coziness and warmth, just in case I make another trip up North during the winter. I did not want to repeat the experience I had last year when I visited there unprepared. My ears almost fell off due to the cold and so I promised myself never to go through that happen again.

The pattern is easy using mostly hdc and hdcblo stitches. You can make this headband either using one color of yarn or two.

This pattern is part of the My Handmade Wardrobe hosted by Susanna of Fosbas Designs. The blog hop is geared towards designing projects for yourself. Sometimes designers concentrate on designing for other people and forget themselves. The blog hop gives you an opportunity to think of yourself and what you would want to make for yourself.

Yarn

I used Lion Brand Nap Time 100% Polyester yarn. The yarn is soft, warm, and easy to work with. It is a worsted-weight (4) yarn. This is my first time using this yarn and it was easy to work with.

In case you are unable to find the Lion Brand Naptime yarn, you can use Lion Brand Chenille Appeal, Sirdar Happy Chenille, Bernat Baby Velvet, or Katia Velvet Fine.

Do Not Fasten Off

Finishing Off

Choose any of the sides to be right side

  • Fold the headband lengthwise into 2 with the wrong side facing

  • Sl st the last row to the first ch across to make the headband double

  • Cut off the yarn leaving about 8” long yarn to sew the band together

  • Turn the headband inside out

  • Fold the headband again in half lengthwise.

Fold the ends to meet in the middle making a circle.

  • Twist the right side of the band anti-clockwise once so the openings face each other.

  • Insert the folded ends into the other, overlapping the folded halves. Think of two ends and two interlocking C shapes.

To Seam

You should have 4 layers to stitch through. With a tapestry needle and the yarn tail, sew the edges together. The seam will be hidden inside the twist.

Weave in loose ends and turn the headband right-side out.
