ZINNIA HEADBAND
Inspiration
As the days go by and Christmas approaches, we are pressed for time that is very limited. Personally, I feel like I need to make more Christmas gifts but do not have the time to make them. I would prefer my family and friends to receive a gift that I designed and made with love.
Coming up with this headband pattern has given me hope. It is quick and easy to make, but still fashionable. I believe it is a gift that any woman or lady will love, whether young or older. Also, the headband does not take a lot of yarn, making it possible to make as many gifts as you want at a low cost. I plan to make the same pattern for several of my friends and family. I will just need to make them in their favorite colors.

Yarn
I used We Crochet Swish 100% Fine Superwash Merino Wool 110 yds (100.6 m)/50 g (1.8 oz) It is a worsted weight yarn (4). Thank you to Wecrochet for your yarn support. The yarn is soft and very easy to work with that I look forward to using it for more projects. In fact, I am already working on a new pattern, the “Zinnia top” with the same yarn. If you are unable to get this yarn, you can use any soft yarn as long as it is worsted weight yarn.

Hook size 6.5 mm (K) and 5 mm (H)

18 sts x 20 rows = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) (using 6.5 mm and sc, ch 1) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Finished Measurements
Toddler - 18” x 4”
Child - 20” x 4”

Notes
The pattern uses US Terminology
Ch st at the beginning of the row does not count as a st.
Use hook size 5 mm for the lace part.
Pattern Instructions
With MC and hook 5 mm, ch 81, (93, 97, 101, 105).
Row 1: Working in the back bumps, Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch to end, turn. 80, (92, 96, 100, 104)
Row 2-4: ch 1, scblo in each ch to end, turn.
Row 5: Using 6.5 mm hook, ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, sk 1, sc in next st. Rep from *to last st, sc in last st. Do not turn. Leave MC hanging. Take CC and attach at the beginning of the row just finished.
Row 6: Using CC, ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, sk ch-sp, sc in next st. Rep from *to last st, sc in last st and pick up MC, turn.
Row 7: Using MC, ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, sk next st, sc in ch-sp. Rep from *to last st, sc in last st. Do not turn. Go back to the beginning of the row to use CC.
Row 8: Using CC, ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, sk ch-sp, sc in next st. Rep from *to last st, sc in last st and pick up MC, turn
Row 9: Using MC, sc in first st, *ch 1, sk next st, sc in ch-sp. Rep from * across to last st, sc in last st, turn.
Using MC and 5 mm hook
Row 10 & 11: `Ch 3, dc in next st, ch 2, sk ch-sp, sc in next st, *ch 2, sk ch-sp, dc in next st, ch 2, sk ch-sp, sc in next st, rep from *to last st, sc in last st, turn.
Row 12: ch 1, *sc in each st and each ch-sp to end, turn. 80, (92, 96, 100, 104).
Rows 13-16: Rep rows 5-8.
Row 17: Using MC and hook 5 mm, ch 1, sc in each st and each ch-sp to end, turn
Rows 18-20: ch 1, scblo in each st, turn.
Row 21: ch 1, scblo in each st,
Fasten off leaving a long tail for seaming.
Finishing
Fold the headband in half lengthwise.
Fold the ends to meet in the middle making a circle.
Twist the right side of the band anti-clockwise once so the openings face each other.
Insert the folded ends into the other, overlapping the folded halves. Think of two ends and two interlocking C shapes.
To Seam:
You should have 4 layers to stitch through. With a tapestry needle and the yarn tail, sew the edges together. The seam will be hidden inside the twist.
Weave in loose ends and turn the headband right-side out
